B-Smith here..
Not much to say today. I’m shocked that the Rangers will be playing the Devils tonight in the Eastern Conf. Finals. Flyers fell apart, no other way of saying it. And with the Rangers having beat the Caps and Braden Holtby, I see them running OVER the old man Broduer and winning the Eastern Conference in no more than 6 games. Lundquist looked amazing in a few instances of game 7 and I just don’t see the Devils getting out of this series.
Have you watched this LA Kings team? Holy goodness. They are an 8 Seed, They are now 9-2 in the playoffs, and they are putting up goals. They’ve beat the two best teams in the West to get to where they are at. They have yet to lose on the road in the playoffs. And they are blowing my mind. Jonathan Quick is quickly becoming a super star and making a case as the best goalie in the West. They beat the Coyotes in game 1 last night 4-2 and I don’t know if the Coyotes have what it takes to take this hot team down. Kings have won both series’ 4-1. I think this West final series could go 6, no more. Kings, the 8th seeded team, will be making a Stanley Cup appearance.
Rangers vs. Kings in the Cup finals.
Switching gears to basketball.
Heat beat the Pacers after a great 2nd half from LeBron and Wade. They showed that they are the better team and made a statement. However, Bosh was keeping in the game in the first half and with him going down, and now being out indefinitely, the Heat could be in trouble. The Pacers are a very good passing team and need someone to shut their post game down. Stephen A. says LeBron and Wade will make up the difference. Skip Bayless disagrees. Bosh needs to get healthy soon, it’ll be hard for them to go further than the Pacers without him. X-Factor: My man Joel Anthony. He was second only to LeBron in games played this season and is now going to have to play a bigger role offensively. He was 4-4 with 9 points and 7 rebounds. He has to be a force on the Offensive boards and I think that the Heat survive and win it in 6.
Lakers moved on to play OKC after beating the Nuggets in game 7 Saturday night. Why? Well, Steve Blake shot the ball extremely well, Bynum pulled down 18 rebounds, and Pau Gasol silenced the haters leading his team in scoring with 23. The Lakers used a 27 point 4th quarter to pull ahead and although Kobe was silent for most of the night (He finished with 17 points) he put the nail in the coffin with just under 90 seconds left when he sank a 3 pointer over his defender. The Lakers looked good, but not good enough to beat OKC. OKC is rested and will tire the veteran Lakers. OKC wins this series in 6.
Boston took the first game from the 76ers’. Not much to say other than I think it’s crap that the 4 and 8 seed are playing for a spot in the Eastern Conf finals when the 2 and 3 winner will dominate that series. I think the NBA needs to re-seed after each round just like the NHL. It gives the better seeded teams a better shot at going deeper. 2 and 3 seeds playing in the second round (when the 1 seed is out) is ridiculous. I’d love to see the Sixers win this one. But I think Rondo is the best point guard in the NBA and is just to good. Celtics will win this one in 7 games.
Clippers took game 7 in Memphis. It was a good, hard fought, defensive game. But Clips will have to step up their game if they want to have a shot to beat San Antonio. I do believe that LA has a shot to win this series. They are young and push the ball well. But San Antonio is a great veteran ball team and have beaten better teams this season than the Clippers. I think the Clippers will give it a good shot winning 3 games, but San Antonio is the best basketball team in the NBA when playing at home. The Spurs win this one in 7.
